ZDA Fall 2014 Update
ZDA is Growing
Meet our newest Landscape Architect, Molly Wagner, PLA, ASLA!
Molly joined the ZDA team in March with a passion for creative problem solving and artistic design solutions. Recently returned to her Midwest roots, she began her career with award-winning Pacific Northwest landscape architecture firm, Murase Associates, where she worked extensively with educational institutions to develop programmed educational spaces from initial concept through final installation.
In her down time, Molly enjoys the outdoors, open water, cooking, knitting, & sewing.

Natural Play and Outdoor Learning Continues…
From concept to reality, the MCMS natural playground is inspiring imaginative play and exploration.
Aardvark Stage:
Phase three of the MCMS master plan is complete! Reclaimed from their previous location and carefully restored by a local volunteer artist, the beloved “animal sculptures” found their new home in the playground. These one-of-a-kind sculptures create a sparkling backdrop for theAardvark Stage. Our summer intern Faustine, visiting with us from Paris, France, helped illustrate the concepts for the stage area (shown above).
Youth Gardens and Outdoor Classroom
Another huge accomplishment is the installation of the outdoor classroom with youth gardens just out the school’s back door. This new space provides opportunities to take learning outside, grow healthy snacks, and explore huge boulders gathered from around Wisconsin.
This fall, ZDA also assisted with another community work day for families and friends of MCMS to pitch in on the maintenance, planting, and installation of the playground.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
PARK(ing) Day 2014
ZDA hosted a one-day pocket park in downtown Madison, as part of PARK(ing) Day 2014. During this annual world-wide event, a metered parking stall is transformed into a temporary public park. This year, ZDA’s PARK(ing) space promoted the benefits of bicycle and alternative transportation as part of a healthier and more sustainable city. Thank you to Madrax/Thomas Steel and Premium Waters for furnishing our park with benches, bike racks, and refreshing water.
