STORYBOOK HOUSE UPDATES

The Van Hise Storybook House was formerly owned by a UW Madison professor of botany who created a native woodland herbarium in the yard. The new owner approached ZDA with the task of updating the property to meet the young family’s needs, while preserving the historic character of the house and landscape.

New entry patio, breakfast patio, path and stairways blend seamlessly with the existing stone walls. Plants were selected to complement the collection of native spring ephemerals and woody plants.

A green roof on the new garage provides a sunny space for vegetable and herb gardening and includes a secluded seating area.
